The WCS Vert Competition as part of the Glissexpo Festival in Paris, France took place over the weekend at the Bercy Sports Arena with an estimated crowd of 8,000 people. The French people were treated to a true vertical show with the likes of Rune Glifberg, Lincoln Ueda, Pierre Luc Gagnon, Sandro Dias, Sergie Ventura, Renton Millar and the best of the Europeans, Jocke Olson, Terence Bougdour, Thomas Madsen and Juerjen Horrwarth. Even veteran Andy Scott from England made a surprise appearance. Another surprise was French street skater Marc Haziza beating out his fellow country man, Florent Viart.

From the minute the doors opened to the announcement of the winners some 4 hours later, the energy of the crowd never diminished In the words of Dave Duncan the announcer, it was "Go Time" and the arena rocked. It's something about night time contest that just make the vibe so right. For the first time, all the judges scores and the overall scores were being shown on the huge arena scoreboard, and even though it took around 30 seconds, every time it lit up, the crowd would roar or whistle. _ For sure, a crowd favorite was Sergie Ventura, he flew higher than anyone as he won the high air contest at 3 meters, 30. Rune Glifberg put together an insane first run in the finals to edge out Lincoln Ueda by .67 to win the $10,000 first place money as well as winning the best competition with a kickflip backside over the channel. Pierre Luc Gagnon remains high in the Vert standings as he placed top 3 in yet another contest.

Many thanks to Richard, Morgan and the Glissexpo gang, WCS looks forward to next year. Oh yeah Rune took everyone out on the town in Paris after winning the event and somehow he managed to catch his plane at 9 AM in the morning.

P.S. on Sunday at Glissexpo, Danny Wainwright added another title to his highest ollie crown, he won the longest ollie contest going over 15 feet. Cheers mate!
