Brian Schaefer

My first encounter with skateboarding was lessons in the driveway from my brother, Billy, in 1984. I soon graduated from the generic Toys ‘R’ Us board to a G&S Neil Blender. A year after that, I was the proud owner of a 16’ wide, 9’ tall vert ramp. My parents were always supportive of my skateboarding and even built a cement bowl in the backyard. I am now 29 years old and own the Skatepark of Tampa, which has been in operation since 1993.

The world renowned Skatepark of Tampa hosts two major contests annually. The Tampa Am has grown into the premier amateur contest acting as a stepping stone for ams to make their way into the pro ranks. The Tampa Pro has attracted all of the top pros for the last six years. I am proud to say that the park has contributed to producing several pros from the Tampa Bay area including Mike Frazier, Paul Zitzer, Lance and Scott Conklin, and John Montessi.

I have traveled the world to judge contests, announce demos, or just for the love of skateboarding. I am very honored to work with World Cup Skateboarding. If it weren’t for my parents and the support of the industry, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Skateboarding is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I will skate as long as I possibly can.
